This blog began primarily as a portfolio. As a freelance writer, it served as an exceptional place to showcase my written work. Most of the publications I wrote for already had websites, and I got a kick out of learning to write basic html and linking it all up. I had great visions of becoming a blogger, but as a freelancer I found I was always busy chasing a job.
It’s one of the things that led me to go back to full time work: I wanted to really be able to dedicate myself to something, without always thinking about the next paycheck, that other job, etc. There was a time when I thought creativity and success were mutually exclusive. I just hadn’t found the right job yet.
When I did find a place where I was happy, I thought I’d want to write less – I even considered relinquishing my hosting space. But something unexpected happened: The harder I worked, the more I learned, the more I wanted more. More intellectual stimulation. More banter. More to do.
I’ve never disliked bringing my work home. There’s something fun about curling up on my sofa with a cup of hot tea and a red pen. I’m a copywriter. I don’t stop being a copywriter just because I’m at home. My brain spins.
When I run out of work, and my world is quiet; Adam is asleep, I’m too tired to read, it’s too late to call my friends, and even the dogs are passed out- that’s when I start to write. Sometimes it’s on my laptop. Sometimes it’s on the paper towel I rescued from the dog’s mouth earlier. It doesn’t matter. I sit, I spin, and I think about the day. So, I’m going to try spinning here.
I’ve decided that the bloggers I like best – hell, the people I like best- are the most honest. So, I’m going to be honest to myself here. I thought a lot about the voice I should adopt for this blog, and I’m going to write the way I speak. If I’m going to be able to reach any body, it’ll be because I’m a genuinely interested person. I like other people. Meeting them, getting to know them, Learning about them. There isn’t really anything more enlightening than seeing the world through other people’s eyes.
The smartest people I know are those who admit they don’t know everything – because they’re the ones who keep striving for more knowledge. If you think you know everything, you won’t ever learn anything.
So, this blog is going to be about life. I’m not going to talk about work. This isn’t a marketing blog, or a copywriting blog. That being said, I am a digital marketing copywriter, and I’m sure to some extent my personal life and opinions reflect that.
This has been an awfully long post. But hey, it’s the first one. The first real one, anyway.
Welcome.

just the chorus.
That’s really not that long of a post. Or I’m regularly long winded.
Nicely written. I can relate to the night-time head-spinning place (I call it the Night Time Place on my blog). Anyways good job. Not sure about the black on white theme though, there’s tons out there and this is THE ONE for you?
lesley i dont no if you wrote your pease on lynyrd skynyrd but who ever it was should do some research aliitle to keep you from looking stupid lynyrd skynyrd were the founders of what we call country today the brought southern rock to the map it was not the board of the the hall of fame that got sick of seeing there name what got them in it was the millons of signatures that got them there if you want the truth it took 7 time becouse of a jerk who stole ronnies songs lesson to the cd give me back my bulletes guess who was in charge of the board so it was a broken nose that keep them out.
here is a bit of fact in 1975 and 76 one year before the crash lynyrd skynyrd strongly supported a one jimmy carter from georga and held found raisers for him along with the whole southern rock community he was a democrat.
at the time ed king left the band and steve gains was hired the breafly talked to neil young becouse ronnie like his style and wanted to bring a guitarst and a singer to the band but he was a stuck up jerk so talks stop allen collins wrote the guitar part and ronnie wrote the words but they did not write it becouse of neil but they wanted to return the favor to a stuck up yank
so before you mess with a music icon please reaseach alittle and by the way the new skynyrd is a tribute band becouse the fans wanted it and no zepland did not go after johns brother but when the fans wanted them back they did get his son
Loved this comment. While I was a host on this program, I was young – and certainly not a writer yet. Concequently, a lot of the content came from other people. Looking back, I wish these pieces had been more researched and educated… But hey, we all learn from our previous work experiences what we need in the next one…. You’ll notice I no longer appear in front of the camera – at this point, I’m the one WRITING the content.
Chad is 100% correct about lynyrd skynyrd, and I hope people who see the old post read his rebuttal along with it.
Thanks, Chad!
